SMLIGHT USB-Extender - USB Hub & Expansion Board

Overview

The SMLIGHT USB-Extender is a compact USB hub and expansion board designed for use with SMLIGHT devices, providing a clean and controlled way to connect USB peripherals and SMLIGHT add-ons.

At its core, the USB-Extender functions as a USB hub, while also exposing dedicated on-board pinouts for SMLIGHT’s 4G/LTE USB add-on and Z-Wave add-on, enabling reliable and mechanically stable integrations.

The electronics are fully functional and production-ready. The enclosure is currently being finalized and is planned for completion after the Chinese New Year.

The USB-Extender provides the following interfaces:

1× USB-C data+power input
To connect to the host device
1× additional USB-C power input
Allows supplying additional power when required by connected peripherals (e.g. LTE modems)
1× USB-C data port
For connecting USB devices or linking to the host system
1× USB-A port
Standard USB-A interface for USB sticks, adapters, or other supported peripherals
Dedicated expansion pinouts for:
- SMLIGHT 4G / LTE USB add-on
- SMLIGHT Z-Wave add-on

This design ensures predictable power delivery and signal integrity when using supported SMLIGHT expansion modules.

Adding 4G / LTE connectivity to SMLIGHT devices using the official LTE USB add-on
Integrating Z-Wave functionality via the SMLIGHT Z-Wave add-on
Connecting USB radios or peripherals via USB-A or USB-C
