Milesight UF51 is an industrial 5G router in a waterproof (IP67-rated) and very durable and UV-protected Polycarbonate shell with waterproof cable entries. The router is made to be mounted outdoors and can handle temperatures between -40 to +70 degrees.

Even if you don't have 5G coverage on site today, the UF51 has one of the fastest 4G modules you can get hold of on with up to 4-fold performance in the uplink compared to a standard LTE CAT4/6 router and up to Gigabit performance in the downlink on 4G.

On 5G, the radio module can provide a maximum of 2.5 Gbit/si downlink and 900 Mbit /si Uplink. ATTENTION! Theoretical values if one has is alone at the base station and under optimal conditions.

Just like all industrial routers, it has hardware and software watchdogs to always keep the router and the connection up under all conditions.

Developed for camera surveillance but the field of use is endless
UF51 was originally developed for camera surveillance where you place the 5G router near the cameras outdoors. The fast 5G connection means that you can always maximize resolution and images per second from several cameras at the same time without having problems with uplink capacity. Cable or WIFI to the cameras. Digital In and out port for connection to the alarm contacts in the camera.

But the router has a very wide range of use and is suitable for everything from local internet access points outdoors (bus stops/camping/marinas) to offices, shops etc. Anyone who needs a highly reliable internet connection.

Industry or Business
UF51 is designed for industrial environments with strict requirements for operational reliability, but is also excellent as a router for a company that wants have a more reliable 5G router than what ordinary consumer products can offer. The possibility of Transparent Mode suits companies with their own existing firewalls to use this as primary/secondary Internet connection.

Firewall / Transparent Mode
The router is complete with an advanced firewall. But it can also be set to Transparent Mode if you want it outside another firewall.

Indoors or outdoors
UF51 can be placed indoors or outdoors as needed. The outdoor placement is very useful in contexts where you have poor 4G/5G coverage indoors and where you have long distances to the outer wall/ceiling so that you would rather run an Ethernet cable than an antenna cable. Just in the context of already having a firewall in the office and letting the UF51 run in transparent mode.

2 x Gigabit Ethernet
The UF51 has two Ethernet connectors that can can be used as 2 x LAN or LAN + WAN. One of the ports can be used to power the router via PoE (if you don't want to power via standard 9-48V DC)

WIFI 5 / 802.11ac
The router has a fast Dual band WIFI 5 / 802.11ac. It also supports WIFI as WAN.

VPN
UF51 supports several different VPN technologies such as IPSec, OpenVPN (Server or Client), PPTP (Client), L2TP, GRE and DMVPN

Fail over / Redundancy
The UF51 has a fast 5G radio but can also be connected to another internet connection via Ethernet. In addition, (one or both) WIFI modules can be used to connect the router to another WIFI access point. The router can prioritize the cheapest/best connection and send traffic as needed.

Mounting:

  • Placed on a table with rubber feet (indoors)
  • Mast pipe mounting (stainless steel pipe clamp)
  • Wall mounting (stainless steel wall bracket)

Built-in support for Python applications
You can build your own Python applications and run them directly in the router, which means that in many cases you can replace a local computer on site for simpler processing. A 716 MHz Qualcom Quad Core ARM Cortex-A7 processor with 8 GB Flash and 512 MB RAM means that there is good capacity for Python applications.

Other connections
UF51 is as said created for industrial applications and therefore they have the possibility to connect RS232/RS485 as well as a digital IN port and a digital OUT. RS232/RS485 can be connected as serial port server or Client. Or Modbus Slave/Master or Modbus gateway.

The IN port can e.g. can be used to trigger alarms via SMS, SNMP or email.

Routing
UF51 has advanced support for various routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, Routing filtering and the possibility to static routing tables.. As well as interfering with VRRP for those who want a complete hardware redundant Fail over solution.

Event reporting
The router has a built-in report engine that can send E-mail , SMS and/or SNMP Traps when something happens. You can choose which type of event should trigger which action.

Managing
Milesight Device Management is available as an accessory (own server, Linux-based). Free for up to 25 devices.

Cloud VPN
Milesight VPN (DMVPN server) is available as an accessory for those who want a central VPN concentrator (own server, Linux /Ubuntu-based). Free for up to 25 devices.

Explanation of frequency bands

When choosing an antenna, pay attention to which frequency bands the antenna supports. Depending on which operator and where the antenna will be used, the frequency bands vary. Larger cities use 2600MHz while smaller towns use 800/900MHz with some support bands in between such as 1800/2100MHz.

A higher frequency band gives a higher speed but also has a shorter range. The same applies to the antenna, if you have a base station that transmits on 2600MHz, your antenna, antenna cable and the location of the antenna become more important than on a lower frequency band. Explanation of signal loss we will go through soon. Higher frequency bands also mean shorter range from the base station.

450MHz (coverage band) also known as the Net1 band is the frequency band that covers the most area in Sweden. Therefore, Net1 is known to be able to have reception where other operators don´t have a chance, but with low download and upload speeds. The reason why this band is called Net1 is because that the company Net1 has exclusive rights to this frequency band.

800MHz (coverage band) is used by all common operators, excluding Net1. The low frequency band means that 800MHz covers a lot of space. Therefore, the band is used outside big cities or smaller towns. 800MHz is the most used frequency band around Europe.

900MHz (coverage band) is the band that Tele2 and Telenor initially used as coverage band. 900MHz is a more unusual LTE band and in the beginning the band caused some problems when the clients (mobile phones etc.) could not connect to 900MHz. Today, the mobile phone manufacturers have adapted the mobile phones to be able to communicate on 900MHz.

1800MHz (capacity band) is the latest frequency band launched. All operators today use this band in metropolitan centers (apart from Net1).

2600MHz (capacity band) is a very well-used frequency band all over Europe. 2600MHz is the highest frequency band used for LTE, this means that the band also has the shortest range compared to 800/900MHz. Due to the high capacity, the band is used in metropolitan environments where many base stations are required to cover as much surface as possible and have as high a capacity as possible.
